As it turned out I finished it just as the heavens opened. ************************************************** This is an alla prima oil painting painted en plein air. The uniqueness and beauty of plein air is that because it is a painting in front of motif and outside in natural daylight it captures an unique moment in time. It is more than just a record of a moment however, which a photograph can capture, it is also the direct response to the subject. It is a distillation of what the artist experiences captured, if done well, with skill and sensitivity to the subject. Hundreds of critical decisions have to made within a limited time frame when the light is changing and the artist is often being challenged by less than ideal weather conditions. It is oil on linen canvas, unstretched and unframed. If desired it can be stretched and framed for an addtional cost.
