Roseville Dahlrose Cabinet Vase 1920’s

Roseville Dahlrose Cabinet Vase 1920's

Introduced in the 1920’s the Dhalrose line by Roseville Pottery combined Art Deco elements with the back to nature movement of Arts & Crafts. Gorgeous, heavy stoneware with white ‘Dahlrose’ or daisy motif winding around the throat of this cabinet vase. The handles are unique to the 1920-30’s in Art Deco design. As a potter, I absolutely love this glaze. Colored clays (engobes) are worked underneath on the patterns and some wiped off to create the speckles in the brown showing the cream clay underneath. A matte glaze then is applied over this piece.. The glaze interacted differently with each color—results are gorgeous and different on every piece. Soft mottling in the green with hints of bluish. This is an unmarked piece, as Roseville used a paper label or left them unmarked. I’ve seen this piece attributed to the year 1922. No flaws, cracks, or crawls…lighter spots are where the glaze flowed over the sharper points and let the clay (cream colored stoneware) to show through a thin coating of the glaze. Foot is unglazed. Slight crazing where the glaze is thickest on the flowers. Size 6 1/4\
