About This amazing ancient Greek Kantharos with red figures is a high quality hand painted replica of the actual historic vessel from Athens. Our Kantharos depicts Demeter on one side and Athena on the other side. Red-figure pottery painting, also known as the red-figure style or red-figure ceramic is one of the most famous styles for adorning antique Greek vases. It was especially common between the 520 BC and late 3th century BC, although there are specimens dating as late as the 2nd century BC. Stylistically it can be distinguished from the preceding black-figure pottery style and the subsequent Hellenistic pottery styles.  Figures and ornaments were painted on the body of the vessel using shapes and colors reminiscent of silhouettes. Delicate contours were painted before firing, and details could be reinforced and highlighted with opaque colors, usually white and red. The most important areas of production, apart from Attica, were in Southern Italy. The style was also adopted in other parts of Greece. Etruria became an important centre of production outside the Greek World. Details MATERIAL Clay SIZE 24cm (9.45\
