Mt Washington Signed Crown Milano Simulated Burmese Vase

Mt Washington Signed Crown Milano Simulated Burmese Vase

This gorgeous Victorian art glass decorated vase was made by the Mount Washington Glass Company of New Bedford, Massachusetts, circa 1880s-1890s. The company originated in Boston in 1837 as the New Bedford Glass Works. It was purchased by W.L. Libbey in 1870 and moved to New Bedford, when the company was renamed the Mount Washington Glass Works. In 1876 it was reorganized and renamed the Mount Washington Glass Company, which was its name until 1894, when it merged with the Pairpoint Mfg. Company, a renown maker of silver. This vase is Opal (white milk glass) with a washed background shading from light salmon at the top to a cream color all the way to the base, apparently to simulate Burmese glass. This piece is fully decorated with lovely wile flowers painted in tones of gold, and bronze, with raised enamels, and the center of the flowers highlighted in various colors. Measures 4 inches wide at the widest point, and approximately 5 inches high. It’s signed within the polished pontil with the Mt Washington Crown Milano signature and numbered. This would be a lovely addition to any collection of Victorian art glass in general, or Mount Washington glass in particular, regardless of whether you purchase it for yourself or as a gift for a dedicated collector. And seriously… now that the holidays are over, after spending so much money on gifts for others, don’t you deserve something nice for YOURSELF?
