An art Deco vase by Earl Menzel, 1937, having a geometric pattern to the shoulder, with a subdued matte blue glaze. It is signed and marked to the underside. Beginning his career at Rookwood Pottery at the age of 13, Earl Menzel held a variety of jobs at the pottery between 1896 and 1959, the longest serving employee of the company. Under the guidance and teaching of of his father, master potter John Jacob Menzel, he became a decorator in 1950.
