Polish Pottery
Well, hello there friends! We’ve returned from our big adventure. If you don’t follow me on Instagram, then you might not know that we spent the last 10 days in Poland. We took a team of 7 from our church to work with some friends living there and spend time with the Polish people. I’ll be working on a full post with photos and more details from our trip, but I’m still catching up from being away and getting back into the swing of things. So today, I wanted to show you my favorite souvenir that I brought back… Polish Pottery! If you’re not familiar with it, it is a line of hand made pottery made in Bolesławiec, Poland, beginning in the early 1830s. Although there are many different patterns available, a vibrant blue is the predominant color in almost all of them. From what I observed, prices vary according to the amount of detail and additional colors used on the piece. Thankfully, my favorite pattern was the least expensive most simple one. I bought 6 salad plates and can’t wait to create a fun table setting with these beauties! I also brought back a mug and this little cutie, as well as some gifts for family. The shop owners did a wonderful job wrapping everything for travel, but I didn’t want to take chances with it in my checked luggage so I loaded up my Vera Bradley duffel and carried it all the way home. I think my bag weighed about 25 pounds. 😉 There are countless gorgeous patterns available. via source Every once in a while I see some Polish Pottery pieces at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx. I was even lucky enough to find this perfect condition oval casserole dish at a garage sale last year, for a whopping $3! There’s more good background information here if you’d like to read more about the history and how it’s made. Do you own any Polish Pottery? Do you prefer the simple designs or the more intricate ones?

This is a wonderful example of classical Polish pottery. This ‘milk jug’ shape vase is handcrafted and, hand-painted in a climbing daisy pattern, the rim is in navy blue. The flowers are in vibrant shades of blue and are accented by forest green stems and leaves. This polish stoneware has the black stamped mark of Ceramika Artystyczna bearing their logo of a coffee pot with the letter B inside just above a castle. In excellent condition, there are no cracks, chips or repairs and there is no interi
or staining. Measures: 4 7/8\
