Gorgeous Handcrafted Native American Wedding Vase The wedding vase has been part of Navajo, Pueblo, Cherokee and Native Americans life for centuries. The two spouts represent the separate lives of the bride and groom, which are united by the bridge at the top. The groom’s parents provide the wedding vase for use in the ceremony. On the day of the wedding, the vase is filled with holy water and given to the bride. She drinks from one side and the groom drinks from the other. This ceremony is equivalent to the exchanging of wedding bands. The wedding vases make wonderful wedding and anniversary gifts. Ceremonial pottery is considered sacred and is only made and given as gifts among tribal members. The pottery must be fired in a certain way to be hardened against water permeation, or otherwise sealed using pine pitch or wax. Milli’s wedding
This is an authentic Native American pottery wedding vase. This hand made Navajo wedding vase has a beautiful smooth finish with painted Indian art. Also this piece has the artwork continued around the vase, so you can use either side. The wedding has always been a prized posession and symbol of good fortune for an American Indian couple. The parents of the couple would get together and make a special wedding vase for the couple to be married. It was to be a sym
bol of their marriage that they would keep the rest of their lives. During the ceremony the wedding vase was presented to the couple as a symbol of the promise of their deep love and happiness. The Indian Brave and Maiden would both drink from the wedding vase using the two spouts to seal their promise to each other. Wedding vases are made in many shapes, sizes, colors and textures. They have become a symbol of happiness that continues today. Wedding vases are great for collectors and perfect for southwest decorating, a western home accessory or a special wedding gift. FALL IS COMING SALE WITH 20 % OFF ANY ITEM OVER $20.00. SALE ENDS 9-24-19 This Wedding Vase is made by an Acoma native, Cathy Vallo. She has signed the piece. Wedding vases were used more in the Southwestern tribes, but now are being used by the Cherokees and all people. It is a special treasure when made the original old fashion way. Some History: Wedding vases are ceremonial items created for more than just display; an entire ceremony is centered around the shared use of this gorgeous vessel, which preserves the sanctity of marriage. Prior to the wedding, the vase is filled with a special liquid. In some cases, this liquid is a nectar created by a local medicine man. In others, the vase may be filled with tea or even just water. Whatever the case, the liquid is meant to represent the union of the bride and groom. On the wedding day, each takes a turn drinking from the wedding vase. The groom starts by offering the vase to his wife, and she takes a sip from it. The bride then turns the vase and offers it back to the groom so that he can sip out of it. In some tribes, to mark the moment they officially come together as one, the bride and groom both sip out of the vase at the same time. Tradition dictates that if they are able to do this without spilling any liquid, they are destined to sustain a long life together. At the end of the ceremony, the wedding vase instantly becomes one of the most cherished items in the couple’s life. They are responsible for taking care of it and making sure that it doesn’t get damaged during their marriage. The measurements are 7.25 inchers tall, spout to spout 4 inches, 13 inches circumference, base 2.25 inches. Please use our Photos as part of the description and ask any questions you may have.
